IndiGo appoints Pieter Elbers as chief executive officer

He will join IndiGo on or before 01 October 2022. He succeeds Ronojoy Dutta who has decided to retire on 30 September 2022, after guiding IndiGo through the turbulent Covid period.

Commending his service, Rahul Bhatia, managing director of IndiGo said, “The board of directors and I would like to thank Rono for effectively leading our business for almost four years with a steady hand through what has been the most turbulent period in the airline's history and aviation globally.”

Since 2014, Pieter Elbers has served as the president & chief executive officer of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. He is also a member of the executive committee of the Air France - KLM Group.

IndiGo is amongst the fastest growing low-cost carriers in the world. With its fleet of more than 275 aircrafts, the airline is operating over 1600 daily flights and connecting over 75 domestic destinations and 25 international destinations.

The company had reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 129.79 crore in Q3 December 2021, compared with net loss of Rs 620.14 crore in Q3 December 2020. Revenue from operations was at Rs 9,294.8 crore for the quarter, an increase of 89.3% against a 50.3% increase in capacity compared to same period last year.

The scrip was currently trading 1.09% lower, at Rs 1675.95 on the BSE.
